TANGERANG: Tangerang regency plans to build an international-standards university in the near future.

"Local and foreign investors who care for education are all invited to join in the project," Deputy Regent Rano Karno said Tuesday.

Rano also promised to give high-performing students the opportunity to study English, and to provide teachers with training.

"We can't always rely on the regional budget to develop education, so we ask businesses to help with the funding."

Education Agency head Achmad Suwandi said it was time for Tangerang to have a university with international standards.

"The regency has become a developed area for industry, service and trade businesses .... We have adequate human resources for that," he said.
